135.Sunset Hatchlings: Baby Sea Turtle Releases in Puerto Vallarta

Witnessing a baby sea turtle’s release in Puerto Vallarta is truly unforgettable. Imagine watching a tiny hatchling scurry toward the ocean as the Pacific sunset paints the sky—an emotional, family-friendly experience. Each year, hundreds of sea turtles come ashore to nest, and local turtle camps let visitors join or observe releases. The most common species is the olive ridley, alongside leatherback, black (East Pacific green), and hawksbill turtles. Depending on the camp, 70–230 nests are protected and 60–500 hatchlings are freed daily. Known as the “green pearl of the Mexican Pacific,” Puerto Vallarta is a leading eco-destination for turtle conservation, with release season running roughly mid-June through December.
