Los muertos pier historyThe Pier of the Dead (El Muelle de los Muertos) in Puerto Vallarta, originally built in the 1960s–70s, was fully modernized and reopened in 2013. Known for its sail-shaped design and dramatic nighttime lighting, it was rebuilt by architect José de Jesús Torres Vega and extends over 100 meters into the ocean with a promenade, circular viewing platform, and dock. Named after local legends of sacred burial grounds and pirate skirmishes, the pier once served fishermen and supported film productions like The Night of the Iguana. Today it’s a top attraction and a favored spot for sunset strolls and bay departures to destinations like Yelapa and Las Ánimas.
