39. Sea Turtle Nesting Rebounds on Puerto Vallarta Beaches

Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico, is experiencing a remarkable recovery in sea turtle nesting, especially for Olive Ridleys, after years of decline. At Boca de Tomates, over 30 nests were collected in one night, with a record of 34 nests, and the region estimates up to 4,000 nests along 20 km of beach during the season. Hatch rates exceed 92%, well above the natural average. Conservation efforts, including training and community involvement, along with legal protection under NOM-059, are contributing to this success, ensuring these species continue to return each year.
